As part of the Lecture Series on Constitutionalism, Nalsar University of Law has hosted Justice (Retd.) Ruma Pal for a talk on September 8, 2016 (Thursday). The discussion was centered on Article 44 of the Constitution which contemplates the creation of a Uniform Civil Code. The talk was scheduled during the 11:30 AM - 1 PM slot at the SAARCLAW Centre. 

Justice Pal had started legal practice at the Calcutta High Court and subsequently joined the bench. She served on the Supreme Court between 1999-2006 and is widely considered to be among the best justices in the post-independence era. Justice Pal has recently revised M.P. Jain's commentary on the Indian Constitution and frequently contributes to journalistic and academic publications.

Prof. Baxi is currently a Professor of Law at the University of Warwick. He is noted for his pedagogic and research contribution, and is known the world over for his work in areas like discourse on the third world and International law, sociological studies of human rights theory and practice, comparative constitutionalism, human rights responsibility in corporate governance and business conduct, and critical studies of globalisation of law. He has contributed significantly to the renovation of legal teaching and research in South Asia and policy-making in India.

Dr. Colin Gonsalves, a Senior Advocate practicing at the Supreme Court is also the founder director of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN). Since the establishment of Human Rights Law Network in 1989, under Dr. Gonsalves the organisation has grown from its humble roots in Mumbai into India’s leading public interest law group with over 200 lawyers and paralegals working for the group.Dr. Gonsalves is an active litigator in the Supreme Court, and he was instrumental in the development of the Indian People’s Tribunal, an organisation that has published reports on various issues such as slum relocation. These reports were often the basis for many PILs filed on this issue.

About the Talk: On the occasion of 68thRepublic Day, Nyaya Forum for Courtroom Lawyering at NALSAR University of Law hosted Dr. Colin Gonsalves, an eminent Senior Advocate practicing at the Supreme Court and Founder-Director of Human Rights Law Network. He delivered a talk on “Human Rights and Courts” to a gathering of roughly 150 students and faculty members at the packed MK Nambyar SAARCLaw Centre. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa was in attendance as well.

As part of this year's lecture series on constitutionalism, Mr. Arvind Datar (Senior Advocate) delivered a lecture at Nalsar , that is January 21, 2017 (Saturday) at 12 noon in the saarclaw centre. The topic is 'The Constitution, Federalism and GST'.

Mr. Datar is among the best known lawyers in India today. In his practice, he specializes in matters pertaining to indirect taxes and company law. He has authored books on the law of central excise, a commentary on the Indian constitution and a biography of Nani Palkivala.

Nyaya Forum and NALSAR Lecture Series on Constitutionalism jointly hosted a book discussion on a recent publication on Public Interest Litigation, Dr Bhuwania's Courting the People: Public Interest Litigation in Post Emergency India. The proceedings touched on what PIL has come to be in the recent years, and was attended by those having special interest to those interested in public law, constitutionalism, and litigation at higher courts in India. Ms. Vasudha Nagarajan who is an Advocate practicing at the the High Court of Judicature for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad also joined us for the event.
