NALSAR UNIVERSITY OF LAW

Accredited in 'A++' grade with a score of 3.52 on a four point scale by NAAC in Cycle 2

Rahul Mohanty

I did my B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) degree at NALSAR University of Law. I graduated in 2017, as the topper my class, with 13 gold medals, for subjects such as Intellectual Property Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Law of Contract, Company Law, Law & Poverty, Civil Procedure and Law of Limitation and for overall excellence and best student.

After graduation, I did worked briefly in a law firm, where I advised clients on transactions under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016. I subsequently also worked in a leading Indian company where I advised on issues concerning intellectual property rights, contract and liaised and briefed external advocates on the company’s ongoing litigations.

However, my love of research and teaching, which I had discovered during my time at NALSAR, especially during my tenure as teaching assistant in International Law, led me back to academia. I did my masters degree (BCL) at the University of Oxford, where I specialised in International law, which I am very passionate about. After completion of my BCL, I joined my alma mater, NALSAR, which offers one of the most advanced pedagogy and academic environment among law universities in India.

In my leisure time, I enjoy reading fiction, ranging to classics to contemporary to sci-fi and fantasy. I firmly believe that reading good literature can enrich our mind and broaden our perspective beyond our familiar areas of expertise.

  • BCL, University of Oxford (2020-2021)
  • B.A., L.L.B. (Hons.), NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2012–2017)

My research interests broadly revolve around public international law generally and more specifically includes issues such as regulation of armed conflicts; making and maintaining institutions of international law; issues concerning the third world in international law; and developing international environmental law and climate change law. In addition, I enjoy doing research concerning jurisprudence and theories of international law.

Among domestic law, I have researched issues of public law such as exercise of public power (legislative, executive and judicial) and working of federalism in India.
