NALSAR UNIVERSITY OF LAW

Accredited in 'A+' grade with a score 3.60 on a four point scale by NAAC

Vijender Kumar (on lien)

My passion for family law was ignited by Prof S D Sharma who convinced me of the need to study the principles of ancient Indian legal theory and compare them with Western theories of law. This comparative law insight developed in me the desire to study Hindu jurisprudence. Consequently, I first specialised in personal laws for my masters and then undertook my Ph.D thesis on Sonship and Adoption under the supervision of Prof Ranbir Singh. The thesis provided me with an opportunity to study a range of classical texts in the original. My research gave me a taste of deep thinking and I felt so enriched by the experience that despite having an active practice in civil matters, I decided to leave the pellmell of courts and immerse myself in teaching and research and thus an advocate became an academic.

This move into the Academy was further strengthened when I joined NALSAR in 1998 even before the University had been established by statute; instead the Society which preceded the University hired me as a Teacher Assistant in 1998. My contribution to the University was not limited to academics, I have also served in various administrative positions be it Proctor or Convener Examination Committee or Coordinator Exchange Programs. I feel especially fulfilled because of the acknowledgement I have received from the University in regular promotions.

The very bright students of NALSAR have made teaching here a pleasure; this pleasure is redoubled by my research activities which resulted in the award of the Commonwealth Fellowship and the position of Visiting Professor at King’s College London, UK. To further develop my administrative skills I applied for the post of Registrar and was appointed in the month of February 2013. Since then I have trying my best to use administrative power to promote the all round growth of the University.

As an advocate turned academician, I am quite particular about the dress code, discipline and punctuality in my role as a teacher and administrator and I do expect the same from my students and colleagues.

I like reading and travelling places in my own car.

LL.M., (Kurukshetra) Ph.D. ( MDU Rohtak)
