NALSAR FACULTY HONOURED WITH COMMONWEALTH ACADEMIC STAFF FELLOWSHIP

It is a pleasure to announce that Professor (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Professor of Law, NALSAR has been awarded Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship for the year 2009-2010 to pursue his research at King’s College, London, UK for six months commencing from November 1, 2009. It is evidence of high standards of research and teaching of a Faculty member of NALSAR.
Awards tenable in Britain under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom, the body established by the United Kingdom Government under an Act of Parliament for this purpose.
As regards the grant itself, the British Council takes care for the arrival arrangements, payment of stipend and allowances and social welfare during the course of this Award.
In October 2008 the University Grants Commission, New Delhi advertised the Fellowship and in December 2008 the UGC conducted interviews for the candidates who applied for this fellowship. The UGC recommended 80 candidates from all disciplines including law to the Commonwealth Commission for final selection. After a strict scrutiny of all the applicants, Dr. Kumar is one of the few who has been selected by the Commission from the Law discipline.  
Dr. Kumar has been associated with NALSAR University since its inception in 1998 and is today regarded as one of the authorities on the subject of family law in India. His noted contributions include books on ‘Hindu Law of Adoption’, ‘Law Relating to Domestic Violence’ and is also the editor of Mayne’s ‘Hindu Law’ and GCV Subba Rao‘s ‘Family law in India.’. He is also the author to more three dozen publications in various reputed law journals.
It is also worthy to mention that Dr. Kumar has also been offered the Title of ‘Visiting Professor’ at King’s College, London for a year’s duration where he will be teaching Indian Personal Laws and comparative studies.
The entire NALSAR Family is proud of the achievement of Dr. Kumar in bringing laurels to NALSAR in particular and to India in general. We wish him good luck for the future.
