  • Legal Aid Cell

The Legal Aid cell was instituted in February 2009, and serves to provide pro bono legal service to indigent complainants. The Legal Aid cell functions as a dispute resolution centre, where indigent clients come to the office with their problems, and are offered advice by a panel consisting of students and faculty. Subsequently, the legal aid cell follows up the issue with the concerned parties in pursuance of resolution, or refers it to an advocate for pro bono litigation. The Legal Aid Cell also publishes material with regard to the law and the common man.

  • Teach India

The Teach India Initiative is an exercise where NALSAR students, as part of their Legal Aid Course, teach students in low-income schools in Shameerpet Village. The Course outline consists of the school prescribed curriculum with the addition of classes on General Knowledge, Rights and Duties of an Indian Citizen, Newspaper in Education, Study Skills, Moral Science and so forth. The program is presently carried out in the Srinivasa Memorial School, Shameerpet.

  • Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness

This program is concerned with the necessity of spreading awareness about legally enforceable rights and duties, and  is a means of ensuring that the people know the law to which they are subject, and thus have the means of using it to their benefit, to get what they rightfully deserve. As part of this program, two Legal Literacy Camps have been held, in Shameerpet and NALSAR University which have dealt with the procedure of filing an FIR, prohibition of Dowry and similar issues.

  • Rehabilitation and Conciliation Centre

The Rehabilitation and Conciliation Centre undertakes the facilitation of rehabilitation programs for persons displaced by government’s acquisition of land. This Centre is active in the R.R District, and undertakes the resolution disputes arising out of and land allotment under the Lavanya Patta Scheme or the Indiramma Housing Scheme and any encroachment upon such land. The Centre’s conciliation program is directed to the peaceful settlement of disputes relating to property rights.
  • Prison Reforms

This segment provides legal aid to prison inmates, and is principally concerned with compliance of prison authorities with principles of due process of law. Furthermore, this program is informative in that it also aims to spread awareness among prison inmates of their rights under the principle of due process. This program is being conducted in the Cherlapalli Central Jail, and operates through the conduct of a survey among prison inmates to ascertain their grievances and to uncover any lapses on the part of prison authorities.

  • Implementation of Government Schemes

Although India has some of the best schemes for poverty alleviation and assistance, Government reports and media reports are testimony to many of these schemes not being implemented well due to a whole range of resons from corruption to logistics. This program seeks to redress these roadblocks in specific schemes. The focus is currently on, the Indiramma Housing Scheme, the Pavallawadi Scheme, the Aarogyashree Scheme and the Abhyastamam scheme. Interaction and assistance happens through the Praja Darbar and has proved to be effective so far.
