Since its inception, the NALSAR Legal Aid cell has been committed to the spirit of justice and the Rule of Law. The term justice itself calls to mind images of fairness, equality, of institutions that make law and of those that enforce it.

It is thus a system where every person is entitled to receive just and fair treatment, and this is the cause with which the NALSAR Legal Aid Cell aligns itself. The avowed purpose of the NALSAR Legal Aid Cell is to promote access to the legal system, whereby every person is able to invoke the legal process irrespective of social or economic incapacity.

The NALSAR Legal Aid Cell is headed by the faculty coordinator, Dr. K. Vidyulatha Reddy, and comprises of students of the fourth and fifth year of the B.A. L.L.B (Hons) Course. The course is graded and is designed to sensitise students to the problems facing the indigent and inculcate a sense of social responsibility in the students. Furthermore, the course is meant to act as a platform for introducing to the students of the practicalities of the legal system.

The Legal Aid Initiative at NALSAR has been fashioned not as a mere means of aiding litigation, but as an outreach program directed to community welfare. Thus, in addition to the Legal Aid Cell, it comprises of a number of initiatives such as Teach India, the  Rehabilitation and Conciliation Centre, Health and Sanitation and so forth.
