THE 3RD ANNUAL NALSAR- JUTICE BODH RAJ SAWHNEY MOOT COURT COMPETITION, 2009

The 3rd Annual NALSAR- Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Moot Court Competition was organised by the NALSAR University of Law in association with the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust from the 8th – 10th of October 2009. On the lines of the first two editions of the Competition, the University successfully organised the third edition thereby maintaining itself as a premier Law University in India.
A Moot Competition is a Mock Trial wherein teams are to argue on a given factual situation to give them a feel of an actual Court Room. This year, the event witnessed 19 teams from all over the country coming down to NALSAR to participate in the said Competition. In what may be regarded as an intellectually challenging event, the participants were tested on a problem involving Constitutional Law and Taxation Statutes. The final rounds of the Competition were judged by Hon’ble Shri Justice C.K. Thakker, former Judge of the Supreme Court, Hon’ble Shri Justice Anil R. Dave, Chief Justice of A.P. High Court and Chancellor, NALSAR and Hon’ble Shri Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao, former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. National Law Institute University, Bhopal was victorious this year.
As a premier legal Institution in the country, NALSAR has always maintained that the study of law involves not only class room teaching but also creation of an environment to encourage critical legal thinking. This necessarily includes vocation training exercises such as Moot Competitions where the students are tested on their lawyering skills. Such training is imparted right from the first year to the students with the seniors, who are always there to guide them.
NALSAR has always had a glorious mooting tradition. Apart from reaching the world finals of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Finals at Washington, the students have won many Competitions in India and abroad. This year itself, the University has won over five Moot Competitions in India and the students have received accolades all over. The credit of this continuous success goes to the administration and the organisational structure consisting of the student Moot Court Committee and guided by a Faculty Advisor. We hope to continue winning such competitions in the near future.
