Shivendra Singh, an alumnus of NALSAR University of Law, has been awarded the Felix Scholarship to study for the BCL Course at the University of Oxford. The Felix Scholarships have now been running for 20 years and are generously funded by an anonymous donor who wishes to help students achieve their potential by coming to study in the UK.
For entry in 2011-12, the University of Oxford considered 161 eligible applicants (all of whom had been offered a place on their chosen course of study at Oxford) for the 6 Felix Scholarships for Indian students. The Scholarship covers University and College fees, living expenses and flight cost at the start and end of the Course.
After graduating from NALSAR as the Best All Round Male Student in 2010, he started working as Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant under Hon’ble Shri Justice Dalveer Bhandari in the Supreme Court of India. His primary areas of academic interest are Constitutional Theory and Jurisprudence. He is particularly interested in studying the confluence of Constitutional Theory and Human Rights at the University of Oxford. His research article on the 93rd Amendment to the Indian Constitution was published in the Journal of the Indian Law Institute. He was actively involved in student governance in NALSAR and served as the Editor of the Indian Journal of Constitutional Law and NALSAR Student Law Review. He was a member of the Moot team that won the MM Singhvi Memorial BCI International Law Moot Court Competition in 2008.
Shivendra believes that the BCL Course at the University of Oxford will suitably prepare him for a career in academia. His application for admission to the University of Oxford as a graduate student was successful last year but he was unable to take up his place without financial assistance. He is delighted that this Scholarship has provided him the opportunity to study in one of the best Universities in the world. He dedicates his success to his family and close friends. He is particularly grateful to his Professors who always encouraged him to pursue higher studies.
The entire NALSAR Family is proud of the achievement and hope for a bright future for him. Such an achievement by our student reflects and reinforces our commitment to achieving higher levels of excellence in legal education and research at NALSAR.
